Minden Rd | Bay of Plenty

This steep hillside site in Minden offered both breathtaking views and significant engineering challenges, making it the ideal project for our integrated team of planners and engineers. Our client envisioned maximising the sites potential by constructing a stunning building platform on the steep terrain.

Our Planning team worked closely with the client from the outset, navigating the regulatory landscape to successfully obtain approval for earthworks, buildings, and vegetation removal, turning vision into reality.

The site’s topography demanded innovative geotechnical solutions. Our Geotechnical team led the design of slope stabilisation measures and engineered retaining walls up to 7.5 metres high, including a two-tiered timber wall system on a 35-degree slope. To support these structures, our Structural team designed pre-cast concrete panels for the rear 4m high retaining wall.

Civil engineering played a crucial role in servicing the site. The stormwater system required careful planning to manage a 50-metre elevation drop to the road below, while wastewater disposal was tailored to the site’s unique constraints.

This project is a showcase of our collaborative, cross-disciplinary approach, transforming a challenging site into a build-ready, view-rich development.

BCD Group provided Planning, Geotechnical, Environmental, Civil, Structural, and Fire engineering services for this Project.
